Personal Assessment

At LTL you will start your Chinese course with a personal assessment. This is not an exam, but will help us to determine your current Chinese level, what your learning targets are, which areas you might need to focus on, and what kind of teacher and teaching style might fit you best. Based on this your Student Advisor will make suggestions for a study plan, as well as suitable books and learning strategies. It is best if you can come to our school in the CBD for the assessment and to create a study plan, but if this is not possible, we can also do it via phone or WeChat.

Locations

You can take your Mandarin lessons anywhere in Beijing. There are no transportation charges for any classes taken within the 4^th ring road. For destinations further away, a transportation charge might apply depending on where exactly in Beijing you are located.

Times

1-on-1 Chinese classes can be taught at any time from 8am to 9pm, Mon-Fri. There are no weekend, early morning or evening class surcharges. The minimum duration of a class outside our school is 1.5 hours, but at the school you can also take classes for shorter periods.

Cancelations

LTL teachers are full time Chinese language professionals who teach Chinese as a career and as such – like everyone else – they need a certain regularity in their work schedules. Based on your time and location preferences, you will have a personal study plan with a fixed timetable, according to which your Chinese teachers will be booked and reserved for you. If you can’t make a class, you can cancel classes up to six hours before your lesson during office working hours (Mon-Fri, 9am to 6pm) for up to 30% of your classes at no charge. If you cancel more than 30% of your classes you will have to pay for them. It is of course also possible to change your study schedule or go on holidays without classes counting as cancelled, but we need at least two weeks’ notice to re-arrange your teacher’s schedule.

At LTL we do not just send a teacher “to teach some Chinese”, but spend a lot of time determining a student’s Chinese level and individual needs.

Based on this we create a personal study plan, choose the right teacher and prepare for the lessons.

This is of course great for quick language progress and a well-structured Chinese program, however it is also a lot of work. For this reason we do not offer a free “try out a teacher to see if you like it” option, but instead require our students to commit to us, just like we commit to them.

However, along with our students we expect a course at LTL Mandarin School to be of the highest teaching quality possible. For that reason, you do not have to pay us until you have taken three hours of classes.

If during those first three hours you are not satisfied with the teaching quality, you owe us no money and all hours taken so far are free.

We charge the same price for studying at our school, your office, home, or preferred coffee shop within the 4th ring road.
Each lesson lasts a full 55 minutes.
We charge the same price for studying on weekends, mornings and evenings from 8am to 9pm every day. There are no additional surcharges.
There are no additional charges for teacher transport within the 4^th ring road. For destinations further away a transport charge might apply.
We want to spend our time helping you to learn Chinese, not chasing people for payments. That is why all prices above already include a 5% prompt payment discount, which means full payment is required at the latest on the day after your third hour of class. Please make sure you pay your balance at the latest by then, so we can continue to apply that discount.

Where in Beijing is your school located?

LTL Mandarin School Beijing is located in the Central Business District in the DaWangLu area. One subway stop from GuoMao (World Trade Center), we are located right by DaWangLu subway station (lines 1 and 14) on Guanghua Lu. The school is easily reachable by bike, foot, public transport or taxi from areas like Chaoyang park, Sanlitun, Central Park, the Kerry Center, Lido, Dongzhimen or Shuangjing.

How can I pay for my Chinese Tutor in Beijing?

You can pay LTL in cash (CNY) or via international bank transfer, WeChat pay, AliPay or any other popular payment method in China.

Can I study on the weekends, mornings or evenings?

Yes you can.

With the standard Chinese Individual program you can study any time from Monday to Sunday from 8am to 9pm at no extra charge.

Which Chinese books and study materials does LTL use?

For learning Chinese there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Some students struggle more with tones and pronunciation, while others may want to quickly improve their Chinese in a specific area like business or daily survival Chinese.

Some students are able to focus entirely on learning Mandarin and so are able to absorb a lot of grammar and theoretical concepts; others might only be able to study after work and need a much more light-hearted approach to remain focused after a long working day.

This is why we do not make our students follow a template curriculum, but individually design a study plan and choose suitable textbook(s) for each student. Come to our school to have a look, we have more than 300 of them.

How long will my Chinese classes in Beijing be valid for?

For purchases of up to 100 hours your Mandarin classes will be valid for a full two years from the date the invoice was issued. If you buy more than 100 hours of individual classes together they will never expire.

What is the minimum duration of a Chinese class?

For classes outside the school the minimum duration is 1.5 hours, but for classes at our school you do a one hour lesson too. If you want to take one hour lessons outside the school, have a look at our super flexible Chinese program

Are your Chinese teachers experienced?

Our teachers are the heart and soul of our school. All LTL teachers not only hold a university degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at either Bachelor or Masters level, but also have a minimum of five years of teaching experience. Qualifications and experience make a difference!

How long does it take to complete a HSK level?

While there are many ways to measure Chinese levels, the only truly internationally-recognised standard are the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi 汉语水平考试) levels from 1 to 6.

The exams are administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education and roughly follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Due to the slightly weird design of the exam, the time it takes to move from one level to the next increases the higher up you get.

While your Chinese progress will depend on many factors, including how much Mandarin you speak outside of class, the intensity of your classes, study discipline etc.
